Nene birds or Hawaiian geese are the official state bird of Hawaii. They mate for life and are found throughout Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. Visitors are reminded to drive cautiously and yield to these endangered and protected birds while in the park and elsewhere in Hawai'i.

'A'a (ah-ah) are found in old lava flows throughout the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, 10 miles south of Aloha Estates. The top layers of 'a'a are sharp and rugged and difficult to walk on.

'Ohi'a Lehua trees are endemic to Hawaii and make up the largest canopy in native wet forests, capturing rainwater to fill our islands' aquifers. They grow abundantly in Aloha Estates and throughout the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park (HVNP).
